About us
I am here is an open source Android app to share your location while you move, on your own terms: no account, no service in between, the data goes where you decide. Alongside it there is a small PHP server to install on your own hosting, to collect the positions and see them on a map.
Who is behind it
iamhere.it is run by one person, in Bologna, as part of Fribbynetwork, a small network of sites. There is no company and no editorial team behind it: just a passion for what we do and the wish to do it well.
How it was born
The idea was born on a bicycle: letting the people who care about us know where we are and that all is well, without handing our movements to a service that keeps them. That is why the live view matters, not the archive.
The code of the app and the server is public on GitHub, under the GPL 3 or later: anyone can read it, check it and improve it.
The Fribbynetwork sites
iamhere.it shares the same rules and the same server with the other sites of the network:
- fribby.net: technology, with software, games, online services and news (in Italian)
- daticloud.it: software and games to download, open source or freely redistributable
- sottocos.to: deals and promotions from online shops (in Italian)
- gat.to: link shortener, used by many schools too (in Italian)
You can find them all at fribbynetwork.net.
What we do not do
- We do not see where you go: the app sends positions only where you decide.
- We do not sell our visitors' data and we use no third-party analytics or social network pixels: the privacy page explains how we handle data.
- We do not ask you to sign up: neither the site nor the app has accounts.
How it is made
The site is written in PHP with no framework and runs on a server of ours in Germany, managed by us. The app uses OpenFreeMap maps and no Google services.
Writing to us
For questions or suggestions write to info@fribbynetwork.net; to report a problem with the app or the server there is the issues page on GitHub.
